Zuni Voices: Preserving Our Past

The Zuni Voices: Preserving Our Past Capstone group at Zuni High School is proud to announce the launch of our website. Our mission is to document the history of the Zuni language, educate future generations, and support the ongoing fluency of our native tongue. Through storytelling and digital archives, we are preserving the oral histories shared by our elders, ensuring that their voices and teachings continue to guide us.
We aspire to empower the youth of Zuni and the broader community with knowledge about who we are as A:shiwi (Zuni people). By preserving and sharing our unique language — one spoken only by the Zuni people — we strive to strengthen our cultural identity and bring our community closer together.

Our Mission

Our vision is to make sure the Zuni language and culture is more alive for many future generations. We want everyone in our community and students to learn our language to tell our stories, and to respect our traditions, so the A:shiwi way of life stays with us forever. Throughout the years there has been a disconnection between younger and older generations overtime relating to the language aspects. We envision our project to provide knowledge about our language to the younger generation by showing a step by step understanding on how to engage with it effectively. Our oral archives will be a good way to show and teach our students and community different ways to learn and be taught. This project will create better connection throughout one another through the inspiration or our unique culture, and it will help spread kindness to one another and motivate individuals to work together and learn from each other. With our oral archives we hope to help boost the confidence and encouragement of our youth to take part and become independent and learning their language and with the help of one another we also envision our oral archives to help the elders and older generations to retain confidence in the younger generation.

Our Team.

Our group is collaborated by eight seniors of Zuni High School, Class of 2025.
